Safer school entrances, without slowing the school day
Students walk in at normal pace with their backpacks on. CEIA OPENGATE screens them as they pass, and the light on top of each pillar tells staff at once who needs a second check.
Walk-through and hand-held detectors cover the rest of the campus, and phone detection covers the exam halls.

Why schools choose OPENGATE
Bags stay on
Students and visitors walk through with backpacks, bags and purses, and near-zero nuisance alarms keep the line moving.
Up and running in a minute
Unpack, switch on and screen. No installation, wiring or technician.
Light enough to move
About 11 kg per pillar and up to 14 hours on battery, so one set can cover the main gate in the morning and the sports ground in the evening.
Clear for staff
Green and red lights visible from every side, and very little training needed.
Indoors and out
Rated IP54 for outdoor gates, in rain and strong sun.
Set up from a phone
The free OPENGATE app for iOS and Android sets the detection and signalling parameters.
Safe for everyone
Compliant with the rules on human exposure to electromagnetic fields, and safe for pacemaker wearers.
Part of a layered plan
Works alongside your access control, CCTV and security staff.

How screening works for students
- Walk through one at a time, at normal pace, with your bag on.
- Keep in your bag or pocket: phones, keys, wallets, coins, belts, watches, jewellery, bottles and spiral notebooks.
- Carry separately and hand to staff: laptops, tablets, metal binders, umbrellas and musical instruments.
- If the light turns red, staff ask you to walk through again or check you with a hand-held detector, discreetly and to one side.
This is the kind of list schools use. We agree yours with you, and help you brief students and parents before the first day.
Choose the screening for each area
| Area | CEIA solution | Why it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Main entrances | OPENGATE | Bags stay on; settings for firearms and comparable threats, including some knives; sets up in under a minute |
| Buildings with a permanent checkpoint | PMD2 Plus or HI-PE Plus walk-through | Discreet walk-through detectors for halls, libraries and administration buildings; HI-PE Plus shows where on the body the target is |
| Examination halls | SMD600 Plus with the MI2 sensor | Detects mobile phones carried into the hall |
| Graduations, sports and campus events | OPENGATE on rental | Extra lanes for the day, with deployment and staff briefing |
| Alarm resolution | PD140N or PD240 hand-held | Quick, discreet secondary checks beside the lane |
| Every entrance, one view | CEIA NetID Anywhere | Central monitoring of all OPENGATE units across the campus |
Tested in the UK. CEIA OPENGATE has been tested to the UK Discriminative Metal Detection Systems Test Method (October 2020), with NPSA-reviewed results available on request.
CEIA OPENGATE screens students every day at schools, school districts, universities and university athletics programmes, mostly in the United States.

Frequently asked
Will screening slow down the start of the school day?
Expect some delay in the first weeks while students get used to it. OPENGATE screens at walking pace with bags on, and we size the lanes from your arrival times.
Do students need to empty their bags?
No. Most items stay in the bag. Schools usually ask for laptops, tablets and large metal items to be carried separately.
Is it safe for children and people with pacemakers?
Yes. OPENGATE complies with the rules on human exposure to electromagnetic fields and is safe for pacemaker wearers.
Can you detect mobile phones in exam halls?
Yes. The SMD600 Plus walk-through with the MI2 sensor detects mobile phones carried on the person.
Can we screen only for events such as graduations?
Yes. OPENGATE and walk-through detectors are available on short-term rental, with deployment and staff briefing included.
Can we trial the equipment first?
Yes. We hold OPENGATE, walk-through and hand-held trial units in the UAE for trials at your campus.
