Ground search that finds low-metal threats in any soil

Demining, UXO clearance, counter-IED search and route clearance need detectors that find low-metal targets in mineralised soil, last a full shift and give the same result in every hand.

AFB supplies CEIA’s ground and underwater search range to defence, police and humanitarian teams, with field training from CEIA-certified instructors.

What makes ground search different

Low-metal targets in difficult soil

Modern mines and IEDs carry little metal, and mineralised or magnetic soil hides them.

More than metal

Carbon rods, graphite switches and command wires need their own sensors.

Long shifts under stress

Weight, battery life and clear alarms decide whether a tool is used properly at the end of the day.

Proof of clearance

Survey and quality-control work needs every reading logged with its position, not just a tone.

Exposure

Every minute on the ground is a minute of risk; vehicle arrays and remote tools reduce it.

Choose the detector for each task

Task CEIA solution Why it fits
Landmine clearance and counter-IED search on foot CMD3 Three sensors (metal, carbon rod, command wire) with a separate alarm for each; works in all soils and within electronic countermeasures coverage; IP68, MIL-STD-810, 2.25 kg
Military demining and EOD route clearance CMD NATO-registered; automatic soil compensation, including laterite and magnetite; one-piece, operational in under 20 seconds
Deep UXO and cluster munitions, quality-control survey DSMD with DGNSS Deep detection with automatic soil compensation; GPS and inertial navigation log every reading; DGNSS adds centimetre-precision positioning
Route clearance from a vehicle EMVS-TL Detector array on a compact track loader, with real-time mapping and automatic braking on detection
Urban clearance and building search PD240CBM hand-held Finds crush switches, carbon rods and other conductive IED components close to metal doors and frames; separate setting for screening people
Beach, shallows and dive search CMD/DW One detector from dry ground to fresh or salt water, certified to 100 m
Seabed and harbour search without a diver MDA3-DT on an ROV Estimates target distance, size and metal type, and sends the data to the surface for mapping

Detection is only as good as the team

Our instructors hold the CEIA Ground Search Trainer and Train-the-Trainer certificate and teach in the field, on the equipment your team uses. Courses cover ground search techniques, EOD and counter-IED search, and electronic countermeasures for vetted teams, with refresher sessions as staff change.

See training, and our security consultancy for counter-IED, route clearance and base protection concepts. For background, read our briefing on ground search and demining.

Supply, rental and support from AFB

  • Supply to government, defence, police and humanitarian demining organisations

Frequently asked

Which detector for landmines, and which for IEDs?

The CMD finds metal and minimum-metal mines and deploys in seconds. The CMD3 adds carbon rod and command wire sensors for IED components.

Does it work in mineralised soil?

Yes. The CMD and DSMD compensate automatically, and the CMD3 works in all soils, including heavily mineralised and magnetic terrain.

Can survey results go into our mapping software?

Yes. The DSMD logs positions with GPS and inertial navigation, the EMVS-TL maps in real time, and the MDA3-DT has an open data-output protocol.

Can you train our team to train others?

Yes. Our train-the-trainer course certifies in-house instructors on CEIA ground search detectors.

Can we trial the equipment in the field?

Yes. We hold ground search units in the UAE for demonstrations and field trials.
