Underwater metal detection for divers and ROVs
Searching under water for metal objects is slow and risky when the only tools are hands and eyes. CEIA’s underwater systems put electronic metal detection in the hands of a diver, or on an unmanned vehicle.
AFB Systems is CEIA’s exclusive agent for underwater search in the UAE and GCC, supplying from Dubai.
The search problem
Visibility. In harbours, channels and lake beds, divers often cannot see the bottom, let alone a buried object.
The seabed itself. Mineralised beds and salt water confuse ordinary detectors and produce false signals.
Exposure. Every minute a diver spends on a suspect object is a minute of risk, especially when the target may be ordnance.
Records. Port, naval and survey work often needs the search results in mapping software, not just a diver’s report.
Two systems, two ways of working
| CEIA CMD/DW | CEIA MDA3-DT | |
|---|---|---|
| Carried by | Diver or searcher, on land and in water | ROV (operable by the Deep Trekker Revolution) |
| Depth | Certified to 100 m | Probe tested to 300 m immersion |
| What it tells you | Pinpoints targets by tone and LED bar graph | Estimates target distance, size and metal type |
| Results | Audio and visual signals to the searcher | Data sent to the surface for mapping |
CMD/DW is for teams that move between land and water: one detector covers the beach, the shallows and the dive, ready in under 20 seconds.
MDA3-DT is for search with no diver in the water: the ROV carries the array over the sea or lake bed and sends its data to the surface for mapping.
Where they are used
- Naval and coast guard operations, including mine countermeasures support
- Port, harbour and channel inspection
- Police and military dive units
- Salvage, recovery and wreck location
- Subsea infrastructure survey
- Underwater ordnance location and demining in flooded or marshy terrain
Supply and support from AFB
AFB supplies both systems with CEIA’s original accessories and spare parts, shipped as needed and ordered directly from CEIA against the serial number. See the full CEIA range we supply.
Frequently asked
Can the CMD/DW be used in salt water?
Yes. It is certified from dry ground to fresh or salt water down to 100 m.
Which ROV carries the MDA3-DT?
The MDA3-DT is operable by the Deep Trekker ROV model Revolution.
Can the MDA3-DT data go into our own mapping software?
Yes. Its open data-output protocol is designed for third-party mapping software.
